On-site ESD audit

As an ESD expert and voting member of IEC TC 101 “Electrostatics”, Eurostat carries out on-site ESD audits to assess your electrostatic discharge control programme against IEC 61340-5-1.

The Eurostat audit is an external audit: it provides an independent view of your EPA, complementing the internal audits carried out by your ESD coordinator.

Audit objectives
→ Identify gaps against the recommendations of IEC 61340-5-1/2
→ Analyse and understand electrostatic issues with your technical representative
When should you call us?
Setting up an EPA
Validate the layout of a new protected area before production starts.
Preparing for a customer audit
Identify and correct gaps before a customer or certification audit.
Unexplained failures
Investigate a possible electrostatic cause behind customer returns or production defects.

What we examine
Documentation
ESD control plan, training plan, verification records.
EPA
Boundaries, signage, floors, workstations and seating.
Grounding
Ground points, equipotential bonding and continuity.
Personnel
Wrist straps, footwear, garments and EPA access testing.
Packaging
Packaging, storage and transport of sensitive components.
Insulators
Identification of charge sources and electrostatic fields.

Audit process

Site visit — approximately 1 day

1
The site visit is an investigative visit during which our consultant examines the key areas of the site and the customer’s processes and procedures.
2
It is an opportunity to raise and discuss any specific concerns you wish to address.
3
Electrostatic measurements (electrostatic field, resistance) are taken to check the condition of equipment, floors and other relevant items.

Your technical representative must be present on site to guide and assist our consultant.

Audit report

The report provides the relevant electrostatic information and explains the key points. It typically includes:

  • Details of the consultant’s findings, including measurement results
  • Specific conclusions and recommendations
  • A list of applicable standards and reference documents

The gaps identified form the basis of your corrective action plan, which your ESD coordinator can follow up during subsequent internal audits.

Laboratory product characterisation
ESD characterisation in the laboratory

Determine the electrostatic characteristics of your products, with measurements carried out in our laboratory according to IEC standards.

Once we have estimated the time needed for your study (depending on quantities and objectives), testing is carried out in our characterisation laboratory. Lead times are available on request.

Qualify a material
Check that a product or material is suitable before introducing it into your EPA.
Check a supplier
Confirm that the stated characteristics of an ESD product match the measurements.
Document your products
Obtain objective measurement results for your customers or quality records.
